Little Egret (Egretta garzetta)

A breeding adult Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) is foraging on the banks of the Gard River near "Pont du Gard". An adult Little Egret of the garzetta subspecies is between 55 and 56 cm long, has a wingspan of 88 to 106 cm, and weighs between 35 and 55 kg. During the breeding season, the all white plumage is enriched with 2 long nape plumes and flimsy feathers on the back and breast. The long black legs end in yellow feet. The Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus) is a common bird on European freshwater lakes. This 46 to 51 cm long bird preys on fish, which it pursues by diving. This bird is an adult and has the unmistakable summer plumage on its head. Zonhoven, Belgium, 20080618.
